Make sure its the right instrument for you
The best way to know if an instrument is right for you is to love your instrument. Make sure you fall in unconditional love with the instrument you choose. If you don’t feel that instant connection with your instrument maybe it’s not the right one for you. Learning one instrument could lead you to another instrument and help a better understanding of how you should be learning. Find some passion and eagerness and later you will find that any instrument could suit you.
Hard work trumps everything!!
Learning an instrument takes discipline and dedication there will come points where you would want to give up but never give up on your instrument. How bad do you want it is how hard you have to push yourself. With regular practice and a will to succeed you will notice subtle improvements that will give you encouragement to move on. A good challenge is always good for the soul!
Study up on music theory
Music theory helps a lot when picking up an instrument your knowledge of theory will likely allow you to pick up many concepts on your instrument that might take the average beginner years to understand or master. If you are a beginner once you get a fair idea of how your instrument works it will become fairly easy for you to recognise cords, scales, or arpeggios.
Is it the right size
Choosing the right size of the instrument is one of the important decisions while picking up an instrument. The best way to know if the instrument is good for you is to try it out first before buying it outright and the best way to try an instrument out is to rent it *wink wink* make sure you are comfortable with the instrument before taking a step forward.
Does it make you sound good
Try your instrument if your instrument doesn’t immediately make you feel like a world-renowned musician something is wrong. Don’t settle for anything less until you achieve that goal.
Have fun and socialise
Though your instrument can be your best friend making other friends who are learning and teaming up with them is a great way to keep yourself motivated. As you progress there are plenty of open mic nights where you can showcase your talent. This is also a great way to learn new skills and practice while meeting new people.
How much time do you have
It’s better to learn for short periods on a regular basis. Every 15 minutes a day is better than one lesson a week and nothing else.
